Playful in Ara Maru

The lure of the blue observatory was strongly pulling us towards Incheon. So, after a little bit of K-drama in a Field of Poppies, my friends and I went to look for Ara Maru, the blue observatory at the Ara Waterway.

Ara Waterway

Not much is written about the Ara Waterway yet but this project dates back to the 13th-century wish of King Gojong, the twenty-sixth king of the Korean Joseon dynasty. The construction started way back during his time but it didn’t have the technological sophistication of today to put it into completion. Centuries and some controversies after, the royal ancestor’s wish is now completed, although there is so much more room for development. The waterway was completed in 2011. It makes room for the flow of water from the Han River to the West Sea.

Spanning 18km, the waterway aims to have these 8 Spectacular Waterfront Sceneries creating water-friendly spaces (source):

No. 1 view : the beautiful Yellow Sea
No. 2 view : an island village theme park that blends well with Yellow Sea’s spectacular sunset
No. 3 view : city waterfront with Sicheon Bridge at its center
No. 4 view : Riverside Park’s waterfalls, and Great Gorge Observatory
No. 5 view : traditional spaces associated with Korean sceneries
No. 6 view : Dumulmeori Eco-Park
No. 7 view : theme park of marinas and yachts
No. 8 view : Han River – the lifeline of the Korean people

Ara Maru

Ara Maru is the great observatory along the waterway. One of its attractions is the waterfall but I didn’t check this while we were there. I guess, the fun on the glass walkway made me forget about it.

It was all mischief and laughter there since we got the observatory to ourselves. If you’re afraid of heights, though, this might not be the place for you.

There’s a restaurant right beside the observatory called “The Cave“. Its ceiling design imitates a cave’s interior, but a glamorized one:-).

How to go there?

It’s better to go there with your car.
