The Philippines at the ASEAN Fashion Festival

The Philippines in the ASEAN Fashion Festival

The ASEAN Fashion Festival was held last June 15, 2019 at the Seoul Plaza in Central Seoul. The Philippines – one of the member-nations of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) – joined with a line-up from world-class fashion designer, Ms. Lenora Luisa Cabili. The Filipiniana collection she brought over for the ASEAN Fashion Festival under her international brand Filip + Inna regally showed the traditional Filipiniana butterfly sleeves in contemporary designs.

The models were noticeably wearing either sun-inspired crowns or tiaras. A reference perhaps to our queens? The latest being, Miss Universe Catriona Gray? Madame Elena Wong, spouse of the Philippine Ambassador to Korea, Ambassador Noe Wong, also walked the runway in her Filipiniana gown.

The Fashion Festival was participated by other ASEAN member-nations: Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao DPR, Malaysia, Myanmar, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam. Each country participated in the fashion festival with their designers and their respective collection. Korea took the final walk presenting its hanbok collection from highly-esteemed hanbok designer Ms. Park Sul-nyeo.

The festival was held to celebrate the 30th year anniversary of the ASEAN-Korea Dialogue Relationship and the 10th year of the establishment of the ASEAN-Korea Centre. Secretary-General Lee Hyuk, together with the members of the diplomatic corps headed by the ASEAN Ambassadors graced the event.

Entertainment was provided by The One and SoYou.

  1. I am not a fashionista but I always enjoy watching fashion shows. I love how the designers express their art thru clothes.

  2. This post is informative and shows how much influence the Southeast Asian countries have gained, both in the world economy and here in Korea. It would have been great to see some quotes from designers, organizers or other spectators too. I’d also be interested in knowing how you knew about this event and if it was invitation only or if everyone was welcome.

Also, you have a beautiful website—I really like the look of it. I especially like your idea of putting all the visuals from the fashion show together in an embedded video. You’ve captured tons of great photos, and the video clips really tell the story. I’m curious, did you use a special camera or lighting equipment? When I made a similar attempt (at another fashion show) several years ago, my pictures turned out way too dark. ㅠㅠ

  3. Omg… I didn’t know you were making videos 😳 it’s great and it’s a great complement to your article! Can I ask you what you use to edit? And I gather that the dress you were wearing for the Korea.net opening ceremony also had butterfly sleeves? I thought it was beautiful at the time but I didn’t know it was a traditional Filipino design ☺️. It looked like a great show! Is it possible to buy tickets or is it a special invite kind of event?
