Where and How to Apostille Documents Issued in Korea

I blogged about how to authenticate documents issued in Korea last March 2019 in this blog post: Authentication of Documents Issued in Korea based on my experience last January 2019. However, the Department of Foreign Affairs issued a new guideline after the Philippines became a party to the Apostille Convention last May 14, 2019. This means, the document apostilled by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) of Korea no longer needs to be authenticated by the Philippine Embassy-Seoul.

The effects of the streamlining of this process are:

  • less processing time
  • no need to pay for authentication at the Embassy (authentication cost was quite expensive at 30,000+ per document))

Where to Apostille Documents?

Bring the documents for apostille to the Passport Division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs at this address:

6th Floor, Waegyu Center, Seocho-gu

How to go there? Get out of Exit 12 of Yangjae Station. Go straight until you reach the Waegyu Center Building.

Fees

  • 1,000 KRW – apostille stamp for every documents
  • 500 KRW – consular legalazation stamp for every document

For more information about this new process, check the FAQs of the Department of Foreign Affairs: QUESTION-AND-ANSWER AND INFOGRAPHICS ON AUTHENTICATION THROUGH APOSTILLE
