DIY Project: Wine Corks

The whole of South Korea is still clouded by the corona outbreak. But hey, it has not halted our everyday life. We just modified our day-to-day routine, but no virus outbreak can break our spirit! Life in the time of the corona outbreak has made families spend time with each other more than other times in the history of South Korea known for its ppali-ppali (hurry-hurry) system has done.

It’s time to slow down and that’s exactly what I am doing with my family. The boys still do online classes, extended until March 20, but they don’t go to any after school programs offered by their school on normal class days. My husband works at home when he can and he observed he is as productive here in the house when it comes to office works. I do more cooking, but I am not complaining.

On top of that, here’s what my husband and I have accomplished!

DIY Project using wone corks

It’s a long overdue project! You see, I don’t throw away wine corks. I keep them thinking I will make a project out of it one day. The corona outbreak provided that much needed slow pace to be able to sit down and create this cork frame.

This is a joint effort with my husband. From drinking all those wine together (of course, those include wine we have consumed when friends visit us), to boiling the corks to putting them together. Let me share with you the step-by-step process:

  • Boil the corks. Let it boil for at least 10 minutes.
  • Cut each cork while warm. I reboiled them when they got cooler because it’s harder to cut. I chose to cut them so they lay flat and they’re easier to glue. They will also be more durable that way.
  • Let the corks dry.
  • Arrange the corks on the frame without gluing yet. You can arrange by shade, by brand or by their marks. It all depends on how you want it visually.
  • When you have finally arranged the corks according to how you want them displayed, glue gun each cork.

Pretty easy, isn’t it? You just need to patiently cut each cork. Once you’re done with that stage, it’s a relaxing process from there. I enjoyed putting these pieces together and got super delighted when my husband hanged it on our wall.

  1. The whole process really looks easy but I think the main challenge is collecting all those wine corks! Anyway, I’m glad that you are having lots of DIY projects! More to come!

    1. I’ve been collecting those wine corks ever since because I know I will be able to make use of them someday… I also have scraps of fabrics for something to do in the future:-)… the hardest part really is cutting those corks into half. that was time consuming:-)

  2. Very creative maam, patience talaga kailangan sa ganitong piece. I’m an art enthusiast before ako magkaron ng sariling pamilya, nakakamiss gumawa ng ganitong crafts. Pwede kong gayahin to pang frame ng mga artwork naman ng anak ko. 😊
Di kase ako makagawa ng sariling artwork for now kase i’m still working kahit lockdown. Wfh is like 😂

    1. Ganda naman ng DiY wine work Ms.Wendy nakaka amazed po.Dami talaga nagagawa ngayong pandemic😊Pero dapat talaga may tiyaga sa pag gawa nito kasi pag wala baka hindi kayang tapuson😅.

  3. Got some corks here too! Timely that I read this blog. Since we are on lockdown, this is the best time to do on a weekend with my kids. Thanks for the tutorial on how to do this!

  4. It’s nice that your hubby is as productive at home as he is in the office. My boyfriend on the other hand mas tinatamad daw sa bahay (quite understandably so).

Nostalgic din pati pag titingnan nyo tong artwork na to, coz every cork has memories of you and him spending time together. it’s a great way to preserve those memories.
