Pottery at Klipoh Village in Yogyakarta

The pottery at Klipoh Village in Yogyakarta has seen its rise in visits through the help of the provincial tourism office. Pottery is being promoted as part of its culture and arts program. The village and its people whose livelihood is pottery is getting a lot of support through promotions. This is how I got to know about the pottery trip in Klipoh Village, less than four kilometers from Borobudur Temple.

I visited the place together with my friend and our children after we visited Borobudur. So, if you have time – no, take the time to – visit the Klipoh Village. Upon arrival at the entrance of the Klipoh Village, you will not miss Sani Pottery. Pak Markoni owns this Sani Pottery and he also has a Markoni Homestay beside his pottery shop. There’s a lady who teaches pottery and my friend tried her hand at it. You can have a short pottery class for 50,000IDR (3.30 USD). You can bring your pottery home, too. Both Pak Markoni and the lady had been featured in articles about pottery and Klipoh Village.

I am sure there are other places that offer pottery at Klipoh Village, but this is the first one you’ll see upon entering the now well-known Klipoh Village. But don’t hesitate to ask more and discover other pottery houses. They all deserve to be supported. Their welcoming smiles are a big plus, too!
