Yes, I got to meet SB19 in Jakarta! It was a welcome opportunity to cover them for TFC News.
SB19 composed of Pablo, Josh, Stell, Ken, and Justin is the hottest Philippine Pop Band! Since they debuted in 2018, they have steadily risen to stardom. Despite the pandemic, they continuously reached out to their fans thanks to the accessibility of online interaction. Their fans are called A’TINs. Their fans endearingly coined the term MAHALIMA for them from the words “Mahal” and “Lima”.
They came to Jakarta primarily for the ASEAN Round Music Festival 2023 organized by the Korean Broadcasting System and the ASEAN-Korea Cooperation Fund. They performed at the Beach City International Stadium in North Jakarta. The Indonesian A’TINs had the grandest time from an all-out performance from MAHALIMA. Aside from the Indonesian A’TINs, there were Jakarta-based Filipino A’TINs in the crowd who couldn’t help but gush over the group’s performance. They were so happy to be attending a live performance from SB19.
I was happy I got to meet SB19 in Jakarta but nothing can beat the joy of the Singapore-based Filipino A’TIN’s. They flew from Singapore just for the concert!

NCCA Youth and Sentro Rizal Ambassadors
Aside from their performance for the ASEAN Round Music Festival, they also visited the Philippine Embassy in Jakarta. The visit is part of their role as NCCA Youth and Sentro Rizal Ambassadors. They came to deliver the cultural package from NCCA for Sentro Rizal Jakarta. The boys also gave an invite to visit Sentro Rizal. Video is available here:
I didn’t expect this opportunity to cover the hottest boy band from the Philippines but I am thankful for the chance to do so. It made me research more about them, admire them, and even get to admire the fans who support them. Their love and support for the MAHALIMA is overwhelming. Rightly so! They are ours. They are Filipinos making us prouder each time they are on the world stage.
