The 10-year passport validity began in January 2018 in accordance with Republic Act 10928, which extends the validity of Philippine passports, signed by President Rodrigo Duterte in August 2017. I processed the renewal of my passport last April and got the new one in less than 6 weeks.
What’s special about the new passport?
The new Philippine passport has the lyrics of our national anthem! How cool is that?
Apparently, this new feature is new to me but not to those who have gotten or renewed their passport from mid-2016. Philippine passports released from mid-2016 already have the lyrics of our Philippine national anthem in its pages. Not only that, the pages also feature tourist spots around the Philippines. Interesting!
My boys who have also gotten their new passports were oblivious to my delight. They didn’t see the significant changes in their previous passports but they did like reading the lyrics of the national anthem. Any other country you know whose passport reflects their national anthem?
Renewing our passports was pretty easy and convenient. I didn’t have to set an appointment with the Philippine Embassy in Seoul because I processed mine on a weekday. The embassy has fewer transactions on weekdays but is loaded on Sundays (Philippine Embassy in Seoul is closed on Fridays and Saturdays).
Please note that adults now have passports with 10-year validity but minors (understandably) still get to have a passport with a 5-year validity.
For those living in Seoul, you can check the Philippine Embassy-Seoul website for the forms and other requirements: Philippine Embassy-Seoul. And don’t forget to report changes in your passport information to the Korean Immigration. See more information here: 3 Ways to Report Changes of Passport Information to Korean Immigration

Some splendid pictures. Fantastic shades.|
This is informative, I was surprised that we didn’t have to set an appointment for passport renewal. Is it here in PH or Korea? I was a little confused.
It does say in the post “Philippine Embassy in Seoul”
Already renewed my passport last year, and so happy that it now has 10-year validity. Unfortunately, I am getting married this year, so super sayang. Haha
That sounds cool! This is the first time I heard about the cool aesthetics of the new passport, yan tuloy lalo ako naexcite mag parenew at pagawan na ng passport si lo ko!
I like this initiative, bawas gastos para sa mamamayan. I’ll get back to this post kapag magrerenew na ako ulit. Very informative.
When I renewed mine last year, I still got the 5-year validity (its okay!)
Do you know how many security does our new Philippine passport have? 😀
wait till you’re over 18, you’ll get a 10-year validity for your passport:-)
Sayang! Di kami nakaabot sa 10-year validity. We’re a month early before pinatupad yung 10-yr validity sa passport. Haha
sayang nga!
Looking forward to renew my passport. Still 5 years validity parin. Is it much expensive compare to the old passport rate?
I’m about to renew my passport. Really looking forward! 10-year validity is fantastic!
I never tried getting a passport yet because I was thinking of the 5 year validity. But now that I already have goals to travel with family and with the 10-year validity, I’m considering of getting na for all the members..😊 thanks for the info!
This post is just what I need. I need to renew my passport! Hahaha So glad that it has now 10 years validity.
Sadly, the moment this was released, we already renewed our passport and it only has a 5-year validity.
In the future, there will be a 15-year-old guy with a photo of 5-year-old boy in his passport. Hahaha! I can’t wait to renew my passport!
