The Induction Ceremony of the Honorary Reporters this year was done on a limited attendance due to the continuing threat of the Covid19 pandemic. I was lucky to be one of the twelve Honorary Reporters who attended and represented all the other Honorary Reporters around the globe. I especially represented my fellow Philippine Honorary Reporters!
Discover K-Healing
This year’s theme is “Discover K-Healing” aptly attuned with the time. In fact, this year’s Induction Ceremony is unlike no other. Our masked photo says it all. We get to go back a bit to normal but with a lot of precaution.
Despite the limitation the pandemic imposes upon our celebration, my fellow Honorary Reporters around the globe felt they were a part of it through the live stream of the program via Koreanet’s Youtube channel. They were able to write their comments live and some were even read by the program hosts, Hana and Elena.
Our fellow Honorary Reporter, Salwa from Egypt, was elated to read and hear the speech of First Lady Kim Jung-sook. The First Lady quoted her and mentioned her name in the speech. That’s a real big honor, right? I am sure this will inspire all the other Honorary Reporters to write more. Who knows, anyone of us will be noticed and quoted next by the First Lady? That will be huge!
As one of the twelve attendees, I was grateful to meet both the old and the new reporters. As always, we establish immediate rapport regardless of backgrounds. I always end up joyful after every event I attend. This time was no exception. There was just one wish though – that Covid19 didn’t happen so we could have all gathered together just like last year. The Induction Ceremony for Honorary Reporters was held at the Cheongwadae and attended by the First Lady. It was also the first time our video for President Moon’s second anniversary was shown.
Anticipation for better days to come
This is the start of my third year with the Honorary Reporters program. The past two years was filled with so many events and memories. I am looking forward to another year and I hope to discover more of Korea under the Discover K-Healing theme.
And, of course, the warmth I have experienced meeting the other reporters both online and offline is very encouraging. I am sure we are all eagerly waiting to meet in better times.

Thanks, but if you’re here in SK you would feel safe, too. We’ve been practicing social distancing for more than 2 months. Mine was self-imposed for 3 months.

Congaratulations and thank you ate Wendy for representing in behalf of all PH Honorary Reporters. It was really sad kasi it’s my first year and we can’t even join the ceremony due to corona virus.

Congratulations, again po, Ms Wendy! As I read your blog post, I can’t help but think that your job is so cool. You get to represent the Philippines and interact with colleagues of different nationalities and you look so happy there 🙂 Do you work for private media or government po? 🙂
thanks, DAwn. I am not working. Korea.net is the official government website and it has Honorary Reporters around the world that promotes KOrean culture. I got lucky with some projects but it isn’t a job.
I’m sure it was a nice experience. The media is very essential during this tough times. Most events are dome virtually now for us, like company webinars and even facebook lives for brands. The in-person events are still a different experience, but hopefully we can come back to having those soon.
let’s hope for that normalcy again. although adapting to the new normal will be good to our wellbeing.
