I received the book from CheongWaDae yesterday. It contains the selected speeches of President Moon Jaein. Aside from the fact that it came from CheongWaDae, the official residence of the President of South Korea, it has something even more valuable.
The package came with a personal note from First Lady Kim Jung-sook. That was more than enough to make my day!
This book from Cheongwadae will definitely be in my collection. Because I especially hold dear books with the author’s note and signature. While not the author, the First Lady’s note is a sweet gesture.
Why did I receive the book?
A week ago, I received an email asking for my delivery address. I was informed that I was going to receive a book of President Moon Jae-in’s selected speeches. And the book will come with a note from the First Lady. This was in appreciation for the articles I have written regarding the Covid pandemic. I wrote 4 articles published in the main page of Korea.net.
- Appreciating Korea despite COVID-19 outbreak – Life in the Time of the Corona Outbreak
- Filipinos in Daegu tell of life amid COVID-19 outbreak – Amidst the Corona Outbreak, Filipinos in Daegu Remain Calm and Optimistic
- Online learning in time of COVID-19 – International School Students in Korea: Online Learning in the Time of Corona
- COVID-19 outbreak boosts friendship between Korean, Philippine families – A Tale of Love and Friendship between Two Cities: Daejeon and Iloilo
That was an unexpected gesture. So, I was ecstatic to receive it and did my own unboxing video.
The note from the First Lady
As I said above, this is definitely one of my most cherished books. It is a very rare opportunity to be given this. And the story behind why I have the book makes it even more valuable.
This is simply inspiring. And I hope to have more published work from hereon.

For sure, it would be unforgettable moment for you. I could have done the same thing, to properly document every step of the way on getting hand to this prized gift. Adding up that you are not a natural born South Korean, this is really exciting. Hope that you experience to have a formal function with the First Lady in the future.
The First Lady was present during our 2019 Induction Ceremony and we had a group photo and shook hands with her. So, I guess that counts for a formal function? hahaha. Thank you very much.

This is really a sweet gesture to show appreciation to you Ms. Wendy from the first Lady. It’s really an honor for us Filipinos to be recognized through the deeds that we do, where we don’t even expect something in return but as for you it’s something big which paid off. Coming from a big personality in Korea pa. I’m so proud of you po.
