Is it possible to have a no-cashier ice cream shop? Well, it is possible here in South Korea! In fact, there is already a chain of ice cream shops all over the country.
My sons and I went to buy some ice cream at the 아이스박스 (Icebox), a neighborhood ice cream shop. It has a wide variety of ice cream, as expected of an ice cream shop. Those who are familiar with Korean ice creams would know how pretty these packaging are. Its prettiness would want you to get them all.
What’s different about this ice cream shop is the presumption of honesty from all buyers. Nobody is there manning the store. There is no cashier, there is no staff present.
As you can see in the Youtube video, I just had to get the ice cream of my choice. Once I was done, I proceeded to the payment machine. Payment could either be in cash or credit card. There is no English option but I am sure you can navigate your way around it.
I saw some children going there alone. It is even more admirable to see children being trained this way. They know they need to pay, even if nobody is watching. But of course, they also know there is CCTV that can see their movements.
Korean Summer
Korean summer is expected to be the hottest. But, I think, people say this all the time when summer time comes. Whether true or not, let me share that Koreans have a sambok (삼복) or boknal (복날). This is the three hottest days of summer. This summer of 2020, the three hottest days are: July 16, July 26 and August 15. The first hottest day is called chobok (초복). The second hottest day is joongbok (중복). And the final hottest day is called malbok (말복).
And you know how it is when it is hot and sticky. Ice creams are one of the instant favorite that’s why this store is a hit!
I love Korean ice cream! Never been to Korea but dreaming of going there soon! (claiming it hahaha). This store has such a cool concept. Reminds me of the honesty store we have in Batanes.
For sure! Ice cream is a dessert that transcends cultures, haha, and wherever you are in the world, ice cream is a great choice for cooling off the summer heat. I’ve only seen a few honesty stores in Sydney but it’s a nice concept 🙂
This is the first time I’ve read about a no-cashier ice cream shop. I love how they trust people on paying what they got.
I have already heard about this from a friend who went to Korea last year. Parang yung sa Batanes nga lang na honesty store. I like businesses na talagang napapalaban yung mga tao ba 😀 LOL! I mean, we failed so much as a humanity and something this little can help the world to slowly shift back.
Trust is the key here ! How we love ice cream not only for summer but all throughout the year
This is what I miss too enjoying KOrean ice cream. Marami rin sa Pinas, but not here in regional Victoria. Ang galing no-cashier! Daig ang Australia 🙂
Beautiful concept. More and more are practicing this. We also have one too here in the Philippines, the honesty store. I also read one from a group that they practice it on their neighborhood.
What will happen kaya if this no-cashier shop exist here in Pinas? Mag success kaya or mag fail?
Hmm… I so love this ideas, it’s a test how honest shoppers are.
This is a good concept but risky at the same time. I guess Koreans are honest people lang talaga no?
That’s a nice concept for a store – I hope no customers tried to sneak out without paying. 😂 And yes, I think it’s a nice training for kids to practice honesty in the real world when they shop in stores such as this.
admirable talaga kung yung mga bata ay going alone.yung machine, para ba syang swipe your own sa cashier (parang sa grocery) or parang machine ng vendo?
sa batanes yung me ganto satin right, honesty store. pero i tried riding bus na ganto ang style medyo mahirap din now advisable at sabi ni manong driver lugi daw sya hahahahah sssshhhh
Ang astig ng concept! If this is in the PH, nakoooo. Gusto ko rin ma-try ‘to!
Yung parang honesty store sa Batanes, tama ba? Napaka-cool lang ng concept ng store. Favorite ko ang ice cream at tagal ko ng dream makakain ng icecream sa Korea. 😅
I love ice cream anytime of the year! There’s so many to choose from with the Korean branded ones. I usually get those fish-shaped ones. This reminds me of the honesty store in Batanes. The concept didn’t work here in the metro though.
It only shows how honest these people are! I’m not sure if that idea would work in other countries. It’s hard to trust people these days especially with financial matters.
Wow. This is cool!
I love korean ice cream, but I haven’t been to korea. Love this shop, ang galing ng idea, you’ll see how honest people are.
Dito sa Pilipinas, alam ko sa Batanes pa lang yung may no-cashier shop. Sana magkaroon na rin dito sa Manila kahit mahirap talaga. Parang ang cool kasi!
Now, this is a suuuuper fun idea. I lover ice cream so if I were there, i would definitely be tempted to grab a whole lot of ice creams and run. Hahaaha
This is sooo cute! Will really try this kapag sure na sure na ako sa travel to Korea. Huhu. Sana maging okay na lahat.
This no cashier ice cream shop looks so nice, and I hope they stay in business for long. This set up in Manila does not ever work cause for some reason, manlalamang ubos yan coz mainit dito but people won’t pay. 🙁
Yay ang galing nman walang cashier tlgang tiwala sa mga costumers 🥰 perfect tlga ang ice cream for desserts lalo na pag mainit ang panahon ❤️
Woww ang galing naman ,no cashier, pero anyway , I love their ice cream
Yay i never tried to buy in honest store Ms.Wendy😍 marami din po talagang ganyang store sa ibang bansa ayon din po sa kwento ng mga friends ko na OFW
I’ve heard a lot of no cashier, it’s really an interesting and challenging for you for being honest! Super sasarap ng ice cream ng sokor,I tried a lot of their ice cream!🥰❤️
