Gimpo International Airport in the time of Covid

We dared to be at the Gimpo International Airport in the time of Covi19. You see, while it is relatively safe, Covid19 isn’t completely gone here in South Korea. There are small clusters every now and then. Traveling is not prohibited, but it is also not encouraged. The airports, once hub of restless and excited travelers, are now places we are wary of, unless necessary.

It is a different world. The new normal gives us limited mobility.

If you are living in South Korea, like we do, mobility domestically has not really been hampered.Masks have been regulated to be mandatory in public places. Both local and foreign residents adhere and respect this policy.

The discipline of the people and respect to authority has allowed us to to move forward while keeping safe. While there is no prohibition to traveling domestically, there is still wariness for others to do so. And those who do follow the necessary protocol. They use of masks and hand sanitizers.

This is a product of a collective behavior to follow authority for the national good. There are temperature checks in every point of entry. Temperature checks were either thermal cameras or checking is done through the wrist. Masks are donned by everyone. We were only asked to lower down our mask at the security check to verify our ID and our face.

  1. Wow. It’s great to hear that the situation has eased up there in korea and you’re still living your day to day lives. Its really does tale the cooperation of the public and clear protocols from the government. It’s bad here in the philippines really, just bad.

  2. Keep safe there! We surely don’t know where to catch COvid 19 🙁 . Thanks for letting us see how it looks there. It seems still a bit busy but still lesser people than usual, right?

  3. COVID is really something, huh? Glad that there are many security measures in place to make people feel safe while traveling, and although the pandemic truly isn’t gone yet, it boils down to staying safe and staying hygienic, following protocols, etc.

    1. Do they also implement to quarantine a person if he/she is travelling from one place to another??? Because here in manila if you are going to go let say to davao or cebu… They will quarantine you for 14 days….

Any its a good thing that the casea their in korea is not as high compare here… Please keep safe always ha!

  4. Isn’t it scary to go out despite COVID? I know people there are much more disciplined than I could imagine, but still. Always stay safe huh! <3

  5. Wow! You guys are really brave to go to the airport during this pandemic. My family and I can never really do that. We are really scared. Your post only proves that South Korea is really trying their hardest to fight against the virus. Thank you so much for sharing this!

  6. I’m glad you are now able to move around domestically – it goes to show how South Korea was able to slowly bounce back amidst the pandemic. Dito sa Pilipinas, kelan kaya? 😭

  7. Keep safe always, Ms. Wendy! I also traveled internationally in this time of Covid when I went back here in the Philippines coming from Paris, France. I did an exchange student semester so I lived in Paris for 2 months. Sadly, my stay was cut short because of the pandemic. It was definitely a terrifying experience to travel at this time huhu

  8. Based from what I heard in the news, I’m sure that South Korea is doing its best efforts to keep both the economy and their people healthy. However, during this time of Corona, airports are now feared by many. It’s sad but this is how the new normal is now. Keep safe!

  9. I think when everyone will have the sense of little care for others then wearing a mask is no big issue. Always keep safe!

  10. im 100% sure that the people in SK really follow protocols. you wouldnt be in where you are now if puro pasaway. unlike here in our country. i just hope and pray that this will be over soon. too much na talaga ito ano.. for all of us.

    1. Compared to our country, I have more confidence with Korea overcoming the crisis. People are more disciplined and the government there is providing the needs of the people. Anyway, although covid has changed many lives, may we continue to move forward and make the best out of the situation.

  11. It’s great to hear that you are coping well especially these days. The country and it’s citizen’s effort to rise from the economic crisis is evident. Here’s to better days. 🙂

  12. I believe Security and Safety measures are well implemented. Keep Safe always Ms Wendy, it’s nice to know that little by little, whether normal or new normal, travel continues on. We pray that this pandemic will end and vanish totally in no time soon.
