It was an honor to receive the K-Healing Snack Package from the Embassy of Korea in the Philippines last month. I was surprised to receive the email but I was very glad that I did. This was done in lieu of the Korean Embassy’s annual celebration of the Oct 3 National Foundation Day. I remember last year, they had a huge celebration attended by big personalities in the Philippines. Some Honorary Reporters based in the Philippines were invited as well.
What I love most about this package is the thoughtfulness and the significance behind these simple items. As appreciation for the seven decades of bilateral relationship, the package “represents a piece of Korean culture which Filipinos love, like K-drama, K-movie, and K-pop”. Of course, this is not comparable to the big, annual celebration but this is very thoughtful at this time of the pandemic. The Embassy still chose to reach out and express its appreciation to the Filipinos, and to some of the Philippine Honorary Reporters.
The K-Healing Package
So, what was included in the K-Healing Snack Package?
- Captain Lee’s noodles from Crash Landing on You
- Samgyupsal Dipping Sauce, Ssamjang from Hospital Playlist
- Ramdon from Director Bong Joon-Ho’s Parasite
- Banana Kick, Jungkook’s (BTS) favorite snack
- Honey Almond and Yobbokki, some favorite Korean snacks in the Philippines
- Instant Coffee for emerging quarantine challenge Dalgona Coffee
- Vitamin drink for your good health
Those are simple snacks, right? You can easily avail those in any Korean store in the Philippines. But they made it special by relating it with popular Korean movie, drama and pop culture. It makes you feel good because it is relatable.
I admire how the Korean government supports its popular culture. No wonder, it is easy for them to penetrate the global stage. It makes them endearing as they make sure they reach out and share a part of them to the world.
If there is anything governments around the world should emulate, it is how the Koreans support and express their national pride in the things they do. Their movies, dramas, products and people bring something unmistakably Korean with them all the time.
That is one successful national branding.
Indeed that gestures of Korean Embassy was so thoughtful. Sending simple snacks that is related to their culture is a big thing. You deserved it Ms Wendy ♡. Thanks for sharing.
thanks, Jessa!
