Do you know that there was a South Korea government financial support for international students? Yes, this is true particularly to Seoul-based foreign students. My children were able to get this benefit as they are enrolled in an international school here in Seoul.
Classification of Foreign Students
For this purpose, foreign students were classified into two:
- Elementary / Middle School students with foreign nationality (aged under 18) attending national/public/private schools
- Out of School students – defined as children attending foreign schools, alternative schools and so on
My sons, and other students attending international schools, fall under the Number 2 classification.
The difference between these two groups is in how to avail the financial aid. The document refers to it as “temporary care” for foreign students. Those belonging to the first group only need to contact their school to avail this. But, students in the second group had to go to the Seoul School Health Promotion Center and submit the required documents.

Required Documents
- application form (attached in the email sent to us)
- passport of both child and guardian
- guardians certificate of alien registration
- ARC of both child and guardian
- Bankbook in the guardian or the child
- proof of enrolment (get from school)
I went to submit the complete documents with two other moms from our school. It was fast and easy.
I think, this is the first time that the government has given financial support to international school students. So, it feels good especially because we didn’t expect it. I am extremely grateful. Thank you, Korea!
