Family-Friendly Things to Do in Bali

Bali has re-opened so it’s time to check on those family-friendly things to do in Bali. Then, you can pack your bags and do that long-awaited travel you’ve dreamed of since the pandemic stopped you. Bali is a perfect place in Southeast Asia to go to! Aside from beaches and several things to do, the island has opened up to international travelers this March. As long as you are fully vaccinated, you can avail of Visa On Arrival at the Ngurah Rai International Airport in Bali.

I recently went to Bali with family and friends. We have had full days of activities for our children and ourselves. So, read on for some family-friendly ideas.

Enjoy the Bali Sunrise

If you want to catch the sunrise, be at the Benoa Nusa Dua side of Bali. It’s beautiful and serene it is so worth waking up early to. My husband and I asked our sons to wake up early with us and watch the sunrise together. Actually, we were there way before sunrise. We saw the transition from dawn to the first peep of the sun. You can check out this video: Dawn in Bali

The breaking of dawn and the catching of sunrise are two different experiences. I am glad we did it as a family even though we had to disturb the boys from their sleep. Enjoy this sunrise video:

Enjoy the Bali Sunset

This is the most relaxing activity you can do while in Bali. We headed to the shoreline of Seminyak and settled at Double 6 Beach. While the kids are playing on the water, my friends and I enjoyed taking photos and videos. The setting of the sun provided a tranquil backdrop as people enjoy the shoreline.

Water Sports

My sons enjoyed watersports at Nusa Dua, particularly at Benoa. I found Benoa Tirta Harum Dive & Watersport and availed three watersports for my sons. There are packages you can avail of but I only opted for these three because we only had a half-day there. You can negotiate for the packages and the price, but remember Bali has just re-opened. Businesses are just starting again. So, while negotiating for a good price is very wise, be mindful that they are just recovering, too.

The watersports my sons enjoyed were jet skiing, parasailing, and tubing. It was the first time for the boys to do jet ski and parasailing. My youngest always says he has fear of heights, but he conquered it when he flew up there. You can check out these videos.

UPDATE:

On our second trip to Bali in April-May 2022 for the Lebaran holidays, we intentionally stayed at the Holiday Inn Resorts Benoa so the boys can be nearer the watersports. We didn’t have to travel, unlike the first time we were in Bali just for the watersports. Our hotel was right beside the beach where the watersports are readily accessible. This time, they did the Banana Boat ride and Flying Fish.

Banana Boat Ride

We were expecting my husband and my sons will be flipped over from the banana boat but they weren’t. I am not sure if we had to tell them beforehand. So, if you want a more thrilling Banana Boat experience you might want to check this out and ask them.

Flying Fish in Bali

Also, we saw a big difference between the first time we were there in March and our April experience. In March, Bali just re-opened after the two years pandemic. The boys had a more relaxed experience as there was no waiting line. In fact, we were the only ones there followed by a few others after some minutes. During the Lebaran holidays, more people came so the watersports business is busier. More people lined up meant more waiting time and the staff were in a hurry to accommodate more people. Next time, it might be a better idea if we do watersports on less busy days.

ATV Ride

When my sons took bread and donuts from the buffet table for breakfast, I let them be knowing what was ahead of us. They had to have lots of energy for the ATV ride. Our whole group went to Ubud and found Bali Top Adventure. We had 7 ATVs and each kid drove. The kids were able to drive it till the end so that means it is good for a family adventure. You can also opt to do it as a tandem if your kids are too young to drive on their own. Our guide at Bali Top made sure all of us are safe and guided us in the rougher terrains.

White Water Rafting

Another family adventure you can do in Ubud is white water rafting. Before we went to Ayung Dewata Rafting, I read this is safe for kids age 7+.

This is the activity that my sons enjoyed the most. There were rough areas enough to make us scream. But overall, it is not scary to make you feel you will be out of the inflatable raft. It took us almost 1hour and a half to finish the river trail. But there is a resting place halfway where we had some noodles that re-energized us.

Ubud Swing

Not much of a family-friendly thing to do, but hey, as a momma you deserve this! Especially after the kids got all the activities they want.

So, while my sons were getting a little bored, I got on the different Ubud Swings at Aloha Ubud Swing. One thing you can’t control while swinging up there is how you place your clothes, your angles, and your bulges. Just embrace your imperfections and enjoy the view.

Beach-hopping

You are in the island paradise, so why not?

There are public beaches, especially in the Seminyak area. It has a beautiful long shoreline so you can see a lot of people. Plus, it has a magnificent sunset.

If you want private and exclusive beach clubs, there are plenty you can choose from in Bali. We went to two: the Finns Beach Club and the Karma Kandara Beach Club. There are plenty more so you can choose depending on your area.

These are just but a few things you can do as a family in Bali. I’m pretty sure there are more. So, do your research and head off to Bali.

Enjoy!

  10. Bali seema one of the feasible destination to visit overseas, and these activities are very tempting. I miss overseas travel, and perfect coz I haven’t been to Indonesia.

  11. Oooh, I didn’t know White Water Rafting is safe for kids! I’ve been wanting to do that (though I haven’t heard of any place here that offers that yet), but I was afraid I’m risking my younger kids.

We just tried Parasailing a couple of weeks ago and we had a lot of fun! The Ubud swing, how high is that? And how unsafe to fall?
