In this article, I will be sharing with you the best afternoon tea places in Jakarta where you can spend a relaxing time with girlfriends. And feeling a little bit of luxury for an hour or two.
Afternoon tea or high tea is quintessentially a British practice of enjoying tea with one’s favorite scones and sweet delicacies. But strictly speaking, afternoon tea and high tea differ, in origin and type of table and chairs used. But let’s not intellectualize the practice and let us just take liberty in using afternoon tea and high tea as if they are the same. It is because I noticed here in Jakarta that people often use high tea to mean afternoon tea.
Best Places to have Afternoon Tea
Writer’s Bar
The Writer’s Bar at Raffles Hotel in Central Jakarta speaks of opulence. Old world charm. The carpet, statement pieces chandeliers, and luxurious parlor chairs all give the look you would want to spend an afternoon in. There is also a piano in the middle as the place transforms into a bar at night.
What I like about Writer’s Bar is its flexibility with its package. Its afternoon tea package for two is IDR650,000 inclusive of coffee or tea. This is the rate for July 2022 so check the current rate when you plan to visit. We were three so I had to ask for their 1-person set. In other afternoon places, the rate is per person. I was told the third person can order ala carte or we can just have the two-person set for the three of us. They are not strict about that.
The servers are very friendly, too.
Alice at The Langham
Alice has very responsive customer service through their WhatsApp number. As soon as you confirm your reservation, you can already pre-order your package. They have two afternoon tea sets, The Langham Afternoon Tea and Alice Afternoon Tea. The menu was sent to me in advance, although it is not imperative for you to immediately choose. You can choose when you arrive. My friends and I decided to choose prior to arriving so we didn’t have to wait long for our tea sets.
At Alice, you have to order the set per person, and drinks are not included in the price of IDR288,000. This rate was as of June 2022 so please check in case there are price adjustments.
I like the vibes at Alice. It is not so big. Luxurious but not intimidating. Just right for an afternoon chat.
Jimbaran Lounge
The Jimbaran Lounge is at Ayana Hotel. And Ayana Hotel is just beside the building we live in. Isn’t that pretty convenient?
This is outdoors. The setting is not like other afternoon tea venues indoors. Although in the middle of central Jakarta, the outdoor is not hot and humid. Covered by an ample amount of trees and generously divided by big spaces, the cool breeze makes you feel you’re outside the city. The afternoon tea set is very affordable here.
Majapahit Lounge
The Majapahit Lounge is at Dharmawangsa Hotel. It is old-world ambiance and is a little bit old, too. I like the lighting and the setup. The lounge has several corners you can choose from and each has a different color palette. There is an outdoor space, too.
If the afternoon tea set is not enough, try their chocolate martini! Cheers!
The Lounge at Intercontinental Hotel
After shopping around the Pondok Indah Mall 2, The Lounge at Intercontinental Hotel is a sweet escape. I love their tea but all these sweets make me dizzy. But that’s what an afternoon tea spread looks like so I got to grab it and skip dinner. Or skip lunch so you can munch on these sweets without less guilt.
