Indonesia Fashion Week

My friends and I attended the Indonesia Fashion Week last Friday, February 24, 2023. It was our month’s highlight.

The show we attended was “Age of Archipelago”. The title itself speaks of the tone and concept of the show. Indonesian fabrics and designs were showcased, including leather. The only non-Indonesian was from the Philippines, Mr. Mac Taug. His pieces stood out but, at the same time easily blended with the total look. Mac Taug showcased our own Inaul from Maguindanao and Langkit of the Maranao people.

One of my friends and I decided to wear Barong Batik, a fusion of Indonesian print and Philippine fabric. We didn’t wear our own Barong Batik though. We wore our husbands’ tailored Barong Batik. That was bold to do but I think, we carried it well. One of my friends wore a beautiful Batik vest. We felt it was just apt to carry our traditional prints and textiles to an event like this.

You can check out the event in this video:

Mac Taug’s creations were the last to be showcased. As you can see in the video, his pieces were contemporary and colorful. We weren’t the only ones who enjoyed his creations. When we met one of the owners of Crowne Textile, the textile store my friends and I go to, he also expressed his admiration for the Filipino designer’s work.

  3. Whenever I see a batik textile, my mind translates it into opulence! Maybe because of its intricate design and the length of time the artisan’s creativity. I love the vibrant colors!
