Why are there Two Philippine Ambassadors in Jakarta?

The new Philippine Ambassador to Indonesia, Ambassador Gina Jamoralin, presented her credentials to President Jokowi Widodo on June 26, 2023. We now have two Philippine Ambassadors based here in Jakarta. The other one is Ambassador and Permanent Representative (PR) Hjayceelin “Joy” Quintana who formally assumed her post earlier this year.

Why are there two Philippine Ambassadors in Jakarta?

There are two Philippine Ambassadors in Jakarta because we have an ambassador that serves the bilateral relations between the Philippines and Indonesia. That diplomatic responsibility belongs to Ambassador Gina Jamoralin whose office is at the Philippine Embassy.

The Philippines is the 16th country to have established diplomatic relations with Indonesia on November 24, 1949. The two countries will be celebrating their 75th year of diplomatic relations next year and Ambassador Jamoralin is expecting to roll out more cultural activities to deepen and strengthen the two countries’ bilateral relations.

The headquarters of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations or ASEAN is based here in Jakarta. All member-states of the ASEAN have Permanent Representatives with the rank of Ambassador. This diplomatic duty belongs to Ambassador and PR Joy Quintana who holds office at the Philippine Mission. Her office takes responsibility for the multilateral relations of the Philippines with the ASEAN member-states as well as ASEAN’s dialogue partners.

We have had 5 Ambassadors posted at the ASEAN as Permanent Representatives since its charter required an ambassador posted here. Here are the Ambassadors and PRs posted at the Philippine Mission:
