My Journey to a Healthier Me: From Resolution to Lifestyle

Last New Year, in January 2025, I set a personal goal: to reduce my weight to 55kg. Like many resolutions, the first few months were a mix of motivation and challenge. By June 2025, I realized I hadn’t reached my target yet. The other realization was, it was hard to reach that goal.

At first, it felt discouraging, but I reminded myself that progress isn’t always linear.

What really made the difference wasn’t just focusing on the scale—it was committing to my workouts consistently. But consistency became a challenge for me, too. Mid-year last year, I had to unwillingly pause my workouts. We transferred house, and that was a lot to deal with. Then I had to hurry going home to the Philippines to take care of my mom in the hospital. My aunts and cousins did a lot more. My mom passed away and a lot of adjusting had to happen.

I also had to bring my eldest son to Vancouver for his University studies at the University of British Columbia. Gradually restarting my gym lifestyle in Vancouver was easier with our Anytime Fitness membership where I can use any AF gym anywhere in the world. When I came back to Jakarta, I slowly stuck to my gym routine, showing up day after day, regardless of mood or energy. Over time, these sessions became more than just exercise—they became a part of who I am.

Finally, in February 2026, I reached my goal weight of 55kg. But even more important than the number on the scale was the transformation in my mindset. Working out isn’t just something I do; it has become a lifestyle. The discipline, energy, and confidence I’ve gained are far more valuable than any temporary milestone.

If there’s one takeaway from my journey, it’s this: consistency beats perfection, and small, sustained actions create lasting change. I may have started with a resolution, but I’ve built a way of life.

And now, I am aiming for another goal weight and a toner body when I turn 50 this year.

Yay, that will be in a few months from now!
