It was in November last year when I got hold of my F-2 visa and I wrote about it, in case someone else finds it useful: Requirements for Visa Change from Dependent’s Visa to F-2 visa. I also wrote about How do Minors of Permanent Resident Visa Holders Get the F-2 Visa since my children and I had different requirements.
But do you know that the F-2 visa has several categories under it?
- F-2-1: spouse of a Korean
- F-2-2: issued to an underage foreign child of a Korean national
- F-2-3: issued to the dependent of a resident visa holder (F-5)
- F-2-7: awarded on a points-based system
- F-2-99: 5 years of continuous residence
I fall under the F-2-3 category since my husband was granted the F-5 or the Permanent Resident Visa. Even though I have the resident visa and I can legally work, I am still dependent on my husband and my children and I were given a 1 year F-2-3 resident visa. The visa is about to expire this coming November 2019.
As early as September, I made a reservation for my Immigration visit to extend my visa. Please note that each person, including minors, should have their individually reserved slots. You cannot have your minor child’s papers processed within the 10-minute duration allocated for you. So, on a rainy day last Monday (October 7), I brought my requirements with me to apply for extension of our F-2 visa.
Requirements for F-2-3 visa extension:
- photocopy of passport (bring original for Immigration staff to verify)
- Alien Registration Card with photocopy
- Application Form #34
- 60,000 krw
- photocopy of ARC of F-5 visa holder (my husband)
- Confirmation of Residence/Accommodation (you can download the form here) – also bring your apartment contract
- Marriage Certificate (I brought the birth certificate of my children)
After accepting all my requirements, I was asked to wait for awhile. 15 minutes passed, and my name was called.
GRANTED: 2 years of F-2-3 visa!
