Ever heard of Galentines Day?
We all know Valentines Day and all its special events but we hardly know anything about Galentines Day. I bet, this may even be the first time most of you have heard about it. So, this post is all about how to organize a Galentines Day!
But, what is Galentines Day?
Galentines Day came from the celebration organized by the lead character in the Parks and Recreation television series. Leslie Knope gathered her friends in one of the episodes on February 13. This was an exclusive ladies event so they had to leave their husbands and boyfriends behind and enjoy among themselves.
This was the ladies’ time to talk among themselves and lift each other up. Galentines Day became their way of celebrating women friendship.
Real-Life Galentines Day
This fictional holiday in the television series caught the attention of real life women. So, Galentines Day it is!
It is not as popular yet but I have no doubt this will catch up on women soon. One, this gathering is empowering. Two, the date is very symbolic. It is the day before Valentines Day! women get to bond with fellow women and re-energize themselves before the big day with their partners. In a way, you are armed with self-affirmations from your girlfriends!
I organized a Galentines Day last year. This time a year ago, the threat of the pandemic was not strongly felt yet. The virus was only contained in Wuhan, or so we thought!
We gathered at Vineworks Korea in Sangsu-dong, a cozy wine place owned and managed by Ian Ashworth.

Organize Galentines Day
I organized the Galentines Day last year as a soft launch of my plan to do events. But we all know COVID happened. So, events organizing has to be shelved back as it seems not meant to happen for me. Instead, let me share a few pointers for anyone who wishes to have their own version of Galentines Day.
- Theme
- We all know it’s about women celebrating friendship. But you can be more specific with your theme. As you can see in the video above, I did a wine luncheon with a little bit of wine tasting. Ian showed us some wines and where they’re from and shared some interesting things we can talk about.
- You can be as creative and as casual as you like, depending on your crowd and age.
- Invitees
- Know your crowd. You can be as casual as your closest friends and have your own pajama party. Or you can gather a few women with diverse interests and you will have an interesting mix.
- Food
- Don’t scrimp on food. You can be in a restaurant of your choice or have a room rental, depending on your budget. Or simply be in one of your girlfriends’ houses. You can have food delivery or catered or even pot-luck. But never be short on food.
- Venue
- Of course, this depends on your theme. It could be as casual as your bedroom for a pajama party or as posh as a hotel function room. It’s your call.
- Tokens
- I prepared simple tokens with notes because it was something I meant as an event. But even if this is a casual gathering among friends, preparing a simple token will make your Galentines Day a little but more than an ordinary party.
- Games
- Not required, but why not to spice things up?
- Conversations
- Loads of it!!!!

Thank Wendy for a Brilliant topic. This is my first time I heard about Galentines. I’m retired , after Covid or when we go back to normal I will organize this to all my best friends. This is the first time I heard about Galentine’s day 🥰 this celebration is nice coz it’s empowering. Those affirmations that you give to each other has a great impact. The tips that you have listed are very helpful po especially to those who have no idea about this kind of celebration.

I think I should organize a Galentine’s Day next year when the pandemic is gone since Valentine’s here is not that famous especially when you have a busy husband.
