The Jakarta to Yogyakarta road trip was a big decision we had to make. Obviously, the primary consideration was the comfort and whether the kids will be comfortable with the idea. We decided on it and left Jakarta at 6:15 am on a Monday, 27th of June.
I hope this post will help those who want to take the road trip plan theirs, too.
From Central Jakarta, we took the Cilampek Toll Road. By 8 am, we were at the rest area at KM 57 and had breakfast with our friend’s family. We were on the road again by 8:45 am. This time, we traveled in convoy until we reached our lunch destination at 1:40 pm. We chose to have lunch at Eling Bening, a picturesque resort on top of a hill in Bawen, Semarang. It was a good 5 hours ride from where we had breakfast to lunch. We realized 5 hours wasn’t bad. The roads were in excellent condition and there was no traffic.
Lunch Break at Eling Bening
We chose Eling Bening in Bawen, Semarang for its location and views. One, it was just a perfect time to have our late lunch from the time we had breakfast. Kids were snacking and sleeping in the car, whichever suit their mood.
Eling Bening charges an entrance fee of 25,000idr per person and 5,000 for the parking fee. We stayed here for two hours. If you have more time to spare, you can stay some more and explore the place. It is a resort so there are many things to do like swimming, camping, hiking, and some other activities. Beautiful mountains, rice fields, lush green trees, and waters provide a magnificent backdrop. There are structures around the resort that you would also want to take photos of.
We were ready to go at 4:00 pm. From here, it was a straight drive to Yogyakarta. We arrived at 7:00 pm at the center of Yogya called the Tugu Yogyakarta.
The Yogyakarta night surprised us, especially this city center. It is dynamic and so alive.
It was a total of 13 hours drive from Jakarta to Yogyakarta for us with a 45 minutes break for breakfast and a two-hour break for lunch. Not bad!
Cost of travel from Jakarta to Yogyakarta
We took our own cars so we spent on food, toll fees, and fuel.
- Food was not expensive. McDonalds for breakfast was enough to sustain our energy until lunch. Surprisingly, lunch was Eling Bening wasn’t expensive, too. We spent less than 500,000idr for 8 people. Dinner at Roaster and Bears was also less than 500,000 for 6 people (drivers didn’t join us for dinner anymore).
- Toll fees from Jakarta to Yogyakarta cost us approximately 500,000idr. Maybe even just a little over 400,000idr. Please note that this is a one-way toll fee cost.
- Fuel cost is approximately 1.000,000idr one-way.
This is a rough guide for a one-way cost using your own car from Jakarta to Yogyakarta.
