Top Sights to Visit in Kuala Lumpur

What are the top sights to visit in Kuala Lumpur?

I spent a few days in Malaysia’s capital early this month primarily to watch my eldest son compete at the International School of Kuala Lumpur (ISKL) for the IASAS Season 1. He was part of his school’s soccer varsity team. I am grateful my husband allowed me to go watch him play.

It was a 5-day trip from October 5-9. I just settled down in the hotel when I arrived on October 5. The full days of October 6-8 were practically spent at ISKL watching the teams play. With limited time and energy, what’s there to see?

I only chose the iconic places in Kuala Lumpur which are a must-see when you come for a visit. I was actually revisiting these places as I have already been here before. But these are the places you should not miss.

The Petronas Twin Towers

The Petronas Towers

The Petronas Twin Towers is one of the top sights to visit in Kuala Lumpur. It is perhaps one of the most photographed and representative of Malaysia. When you see the twin towers, you know it is from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The twin towers are also at the center of downtown KL and accessible from all the major hotels. I just walked from my hotel to KLCC Park where the tower is located. It was a nighttime walk and I felt safe. That speaks highly of the sense of security especially as I am not an adventurous person.

I sent a photo to my son and wished he was with me. I reminded him we had a photo here when he was a toddler. They stayed with host families and we were not allowed to get them. Good thing, he was brought by his host family the next night for a dinner at the Suria Mall so he had photos with his teammate here.

Merdeka Square and Sultan Abdul Samad Building

Sultan Abdul Sama Building

During my first visit, we came here during the daytime. Naturally, I wanted to visit the place at night this time so I can capture the building at night time. It is beautiful. I am glad I didn’t let the rain hinder me from visiting. I was not able to walk around leisurely because the rain poured a few minutes after I arrived. But I was able to take some photos and that made me very satisfied.

Aside from its beautiful architecture, the building and the Merdeka Square are filled with history. This is where Malaysia Independence started and it is being celebrated every year every 31st of August.

Explore the Streets of Kuala Lumpur

Streets of Kuala Lumpur

Walking the streets of Kuala Lumpur at night is safe. I did it alone. Of course, I was aware of my surroundings. I was wary, as I should be. But I didn’t feel unsafe during my nighttime walk and I was unafraid to take photos, too. Daytime walk on my last morning was also relaxing. It was a good way for me to spend the last day in Kuala Lumpur as I was neither in a hurry nor worried about my flight which was scheduled at night. I had a good time looking and walking at the streets of KL in broad daylight.

Batu Caves

The Batu Caves is not far from the center of Kuala Lumpur. It is easy to go to. The most preferred is, of course, by taxi because the fare is not that expensive.

I wasn’t able to go here this time… again, I am not adventurous on my own. I visited the Batu Caves with my husband and my firstborn years ago. In fact, the stairs leading to the Batu Caves were not painted yet at that time. For several years now, the stairs have been painted and are very colorful. Its proximity to the city makes it an easy choice to go to. One of the parents who watched the games visited during our last day while waiting for our flight. I would definitely recommend this as one of the places you should prioritize visiting if you only have a short and limited time in Kuala Lumpur. Just make sure, you are not carrying any food or drinks that monkeys living in the cave can easily grab from you.

Enjoy your stay in Kuala Lumpur!
