If you are visiting Bandung here in Indonesia, do not miss out on Tangkuban Parahu, a picturesque stratovolcano not very far away from the center of Bandung. This is an easy location to go to so many local tourists come here to visit.
I wanted to have something exciting for our family to see, something we haven’t done yet before. Although my second son and I had our Merapi Lava Jeepney Tour at Yogyakarta, we cannot claim to have seen a volcano’s crater from above. I chose Tangkuban Parahu for its proximity to our hotel in Dago, Badung. The volcano is just an hour away from Sheraton Hotel, the hotel where we stayed.
Entrance Fee
On regular days, locals are charged 20,000 IDR for the entrance fee, while foreign tourists are charged 200,000 IDR. On weekends and holidays, locals are charged 30,000 IDR, while foreigners are charged 300,000 IDR. I know there’s quite a steep difference. But that’s the way it is.
Car parking is at 5,000 IDR.
If you want to trek toward the Domas Crater where you can have the mud massage experience, you need to hire a guide. I was not able to personally check on the rates but feel free to check the web as there is a lot of information about it. We went on a rainy day so it was not possible to do the trekking my boys would have immensely enjoyed. We hope to go back during the dry season so they get to have that experience!

On the day we left Dago, it was a bright sunny morning. Halfway through, the skies became grey. And right when we arrived at the peak, it was raining so hard. The rain was pouring! We patiently waited it out and were given a view in the end.

What a gorgeous view and it is mesmerizing to observe volcanoes. Although I would prefer doing so far because I have traumas with volcanoes.
